We’re excited to announce that registration is now open for the next cohort of our popular course, MI for Advisors: Motivational Interviewing Bootcamp! This eight-week, self-paced experience begins on April 5, 2025, and is open to all financial professionals—no MQ Partnership required.

Led by Derek Hagen, CFA, CFP®, CFT™, FBS®, CIPM, this course equips advisors with evidence-based communication tools to improve client trust, deepen engagement, and support lasting behavior change. Through a mix of recorded lectures, reading, exercises, and Q&A sessions, you’ll learn how to listen reflectively, invite meaningful conversations, and empower clients to make informed, values-aligned decisions.

Earn up to 15 CFP® CE credits and 12 AFC® CEUs.

Big Changes at Money Quotient: More Access, More Flexibility!

We’re excited to announce some major updates to how we serve our community! We’ve eliminated membership tiers—now, all MQ Partners have access to our entire library or resources with pricing equivalent to the former Gold level.

We’ve also transformed how new MQ Partners come on board, making the process simpler and more flexible. Instead of picking a tier, people now choose from three implementation experiences: the Self-Study Experience ($600), the Community Experience ($4,500), or the Community Experience + Personal Coaching ($30,000) for those seeking deep, hands-on guidance.

Motivational Interviewing Bootcamp Wrap-Up and Looking Ahead

We’re thrilled to announce that the first cohort of our “MI for Advisors: Motivational Interviewing Bootcamp” has successfully wrapped up! Over the past eight weeks, participants immersed themselves in an evidence-based communication method designed to help clients find the motivation to make positive decisions. Through lectures, hands-on exercises, reading assignments, and Q&A sessions, attendees learned how to integrate MI techniques into their practices—enhancing client trust, improving communication, and ultimately guiding clients toward better outcomes.

We’re so grateful for the enthusiasm and commitment shown by everyone involved, and we look forward to receiving feedback from our inaugural class. Your insights will be invaluable as we continue refining the course to ensure even greater value for future participants. MQ Educational Offerings Now Approved for AFCPE CEU

Improve Your Skills with Prospects

On July 23rd, Money Quotient will hold the advanced course: “A Values-Based Approach to Effective Communication with Prospective Clients.”

This workshop, led by MQ President Amy Mullen, CFP®, will delve into the essential components of effective communication during the initial stages of client interaction. Specifically, it will focus on the importance of a well-structured “Getting Acquainted Meeting,” a crucial time when the trust-building process begins. This stage presents a unique opportunity for advisors to highlight the significance of a comprehensive client-centered approach to financial planning.

Research and experience indicate that trust in an advisor is significantly developed when the advisor underscores the importance of aligning the financial plan with the client’s values and priorities. By incorporating life-centered exercises and engaging in meaningful conversations, advisors can create a more holistic and impactful planning process.

During this workshop, you will explore:

  • The psychological dynamics in a client/planner relationship during the prospect stage, including beliefs and biases.
  • Effective communication techniques that resonate with the client’s emotional brain, set clear expectations, and foster motivation for positive financial actions.
  • Tools and strategies to convey the planner’s value proposition and encourage client commitment to a long-term financial plan.
  • Communication skills that set client expectations and clearly define the benefits and outcomes of values-based financial planning.
  • Methods to encourage prospective clients to openly share critical personal and financial information that will influence the success of their financial plan.
